Wow…

You’d think a deadline of 5pm meant 5pm, not 12am. LSA abstracts are no longer being accepted, even though *all* their propaganda says the deadline for submission is 5pm, 1st August. That’s really cheap.

Update: I got sent this reply from the LSA Secretariat:

Due to unexpected server access problems, the deadline for submission of abstracts for the 2008 Annual Meeting has been extended to 11:59 PM (EDT) on 2 August 2007.

(I guess all our last-minute submissions overloaded something… But they must know by now that this is how linguists work..)

  1. That is really obnoxious. Already time zones were against a lot of us, but even assuming this was an unintentional glitch, it’s frustrating that the work I’ve put into my abstract is now for nothing.

  2. grr — me too!

    I don’t expect it’ll be for nothing, though. I expect they’ll fix it…
