live-blogging from the Haddon papers

I’m in the basement of the library (getting here is a story in itself, since following the signs for ‘basement’ lead to the wrong part of the basement… I was supposed to take the unsigned door…) looking at the microfilm of AC Haddon’s Torres Strait fieldnotes that I have on interlibrary loan.
So far I have learnt that 80% of the (white) population of Queensland had pyorrhea in 1900, and that Haddon has random pages of Zulu in his notes about births, deaths and marriages of “Zogo” people.
