Thanks to a comment by Andrew Leigh on his blog, I’ve been trying out Windows Live Writer. It’s an offline blogging editor. Hasn’t been strictly necessary at the moment since I’m back in Houston and in the world of 24-hour internet access (wireless at home, ethernet at office). It has full unicode support (unlike the html editor I used to use) and has a couple of other potentially nice features, like insertable maps. It also strikes me as a good way to backup posts (since WordPress, although otherwise highly cool, has no easy way to archive posts).
