One-eyes

In a couple of different parts of Australia (NW and NE so far) taipans [Oxyuranus scutellatus] are also called “one eye”. It’s not at all clear to me why this is the case, since they clearly have 2 eyes, and in the photos I’ve seen there’s no spot or anything that could look like an eye. Any Australianist readers heard this term from their part of the country?

And while we’re at it, does anyone know if a “five-minute snake” refers to a particular species, or is it any snake that takes five minutes to kill you? (that doesn’t narrow down the field that much…)
