A great story from the ABC about year 11/12 science students at Maningrida who have discovered 33 distinct species of spider over the last two years. Couple of things to note. First, the students used “Indigenous” (probably Burarra) names for some of the spiders, but the teacher couldn’t pronounce it and made no attempt to do so. That’s a bit of a shame. Secondly,Maningrida’s had senior high school subjects for only 4 years. It’s hard to do work like this if students are sent to Darwin or Katherine for school.
